Seven committees, and the two governments they speak to.

AMCHAM Malaysia’s committees are formalized groups of registered members that come together to represent a specific industry, sector or function. These committees provide a platform for members with similar interests to share best practices, develop a sustainable existence, explore topics of interest and to stay informed of the latest industry developments. Together, they support the Chamber’s objective of promoting a healthy business environment for U.S. companies operating in Malaysia.

Committees and working groups

Seven committees and working groups, as the chamber lists them. Three are marked "by invitation" on their own index. The chamber’s FAQ adds that participation in committees is limited to members, and that two of them, MAEI and the Malaysian Alternative & Renewable Industry committee, carry a separate fee that funds their activities.

Malaysian American Electronics IndustryMAEI

Established 1989

An industry committee representing members in Malaysia’s Electrical and Electronics industry. Since its inception in 1989, MAEI has served to create dialogue opportunities between the government and American E&E companies about ways to grow and upskill the industry, to highlight members’ contributions to the Malaysian economy, and to advocate for regulatory changes needed to enhance Malaysia’s business environment. The committee consists of 57 member companies, covering both semiconductor and non-semiconductor industries.

Government Relations Council

By invitation

AMCHAM raises key issues and concerns with the Malaysian and U.S. Governments and gathers information on policy issues to promote trade and investment between both countries. It works with members to develop white papers and communications strategies, participates in dialogues and roundtables with the Malaysian Government, and keeps a close partnership with the U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur and with U.S. agencies in Washington.

Healthcare & Life SciencesHLS

Brings together members focused on pharmaceuticals, medical devices, technology and delivery, to hold open discussions on the development and opportunities within these sectors. The committee focuses not only on potential advocacy but on the sharing of best practices and the networking of members in the space.

Human Capital Committee

Established June 2021By invitation

Established in June 2021 to bring together corporate leaders from diverse backgrounds to explore issues impacting human capital development, establish standards and benchmarks and share best practices for HR and talent management as enablers for business and country growth. Meetings are held monthly.

Energy Committee

Established March 2023By invitation

Established in March 2023 after AMCHAM’s CleanTech Forum hosted in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Malaysia. The committee aims to support Malaysia’s aspiration towards 2050 net zero carbon, and its current aim is to advocate for a robust carbon capture and storage industry and a comprehensive legal framework that addresses both locally produced and imported CO2 emissions. Meetings are held monthly.

Corporate Citizenship CommitteeCCC

Established August 2018

In August 2018, a group of committed members gathered to form an official committee known as the Corporate Citizenship Committee. It gathers insights while highlighting and amplifying members’ CSR efforts within the country, and is an important stakeholder in shaping the MY AMCHAM CARES umbrella.

MY AMCHAM CARES

The chamber's corporate citizenship programme, and one of the four areas its own about page says its services cover.

MY AMCHAM CARES is one of AMCHAM’s core programs, and the Committee on Corporate Citizenship sits under it. While members continue their independent CSR projects, the committee allows for the regular sharing of best practices, identifying capacity development needs of members, and developing programs to meet these needs, across the four pillars of MY AMCHAM CARES: strategy, sustainability, measurability and communication.

The chamber recognises member CSR at its Thanksgiving Luncheon each November, and publishes a MY AMCHAM CARES recipient list for every year back to 2017.
